Today I accepted a local appointment this week with a small business owner tax client whose CPA resigned after he accepted a position as controller of a mid-sized firm (at a much higher salary than we earn in small business practice). That’s OK, I love working with small businesses. I’ve changed my approach lately in that I like to meet in person for an initial interview. He was surprised that my questions will be focused on his goals, how he likes to communicate, and what he sees as his most likely challenges. Under the old guy, it was right into the numbers. I’m hoping that the change of accountants allows his to consider new possibilities in his financial results beyond solving the current problem and filing taxes.
